Nemanja Matic insists Manchester United are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
United finished third in the recent domestic season to qualify for the Champions League after an unbeaten 14-match league run that stretched back to January.
Although United amassed the same number of points as last season (66) they moved up three places in the league table to record their second-best finish since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
United have not mounted a credible championship challenge since they last won it over seven years ago but Matic says the dressing room’s intention is to try and bring a 21st league title to Old Trafford.
“Me, personally, I would like to win the Premier League with Manchester United,” Matic told the United magazine. “I think that our club always needs to fight for the title.
“We always need to try to do the best for this club, which we are doing at the moment, and I think we cannot allow any club to win the league seven or 10 games before the season finishes, so we have to fight until the end.
